After spending some time in Italy, I was taken back with not only the beautiful cathedrals, but also with the type that quietly decorates them. This was my attempt to design a font loosely based off type I saw while climbing to the top of Saint Peter's Cupola. The name of the font derives from the location where Saint Peter's Cathedral resides, The Vatican. And since we rarely see typography in sterile environments, I created a few mood boards depicting how I would envision the type to be set.
